The new season of Diablo IV arrives on December 12 and promises to fundamentally shake up players’ habits. Called the season of divine intervention, it plunges Sanctuary into new chaos, this time directly pitting the forces of Hell against those of Heaven. A very strong theme, which is reflected as much in the gameplay as in the progression and confrontations.
The main theme of the season is the arrival of an angel, Hadriel, who comes to lend a hand to the players against the offensive of the lower demons. Concretely, this translates into a new system of temporary powers called “divine gifts”. These bonuses change the way you play by offering more rewards, but sometimes at the cost of additional constraints. The idea is to create a permanent balance between risk and power, encouraging players to adapt their approach depending on the situation.

Review your equipment
The other major change goes to the very heart of Diablo IV namely the equipment. The item improvement system has been thoroughly redesigned to be more readable and more rewarding. No more feeling of betting everything on chance, progression becomes more direct, better controlled and above all more satisfying in the long term. Enough to restore interest in crafting and optimizing builds, without falling into overly complex calculations.
The fights also evolve noticeably. Monsters are getting smartermore dangerous and above all less predictable. The clashes become more tense, with enemies that adapt more to the way you play. From there to thinking that Blizzard is relying on a new form of artificial intelligence, there is only one step. This rise in danger is accompanied by an overhaul of defenses, healing and survival in general. Potions become more strategic and survival now requires real decisions rather than a simple bludgeoning of skills.
Content, more content
Content-wise, the season introduces a new major confrontation with the arrival of Asmodan as a world boss, alongside well-known figures like Duriel, Bélial and Andarielle. These threats appear in several activities in the game and transform certain modes into real infernal war zones.
Finally, seasonal progression is also evolving. The renowned system leaves room for a more structured increase in power, with more understandable objectives and rewards better integrated into the rhythm of the game. Players looking for a challenge can also turn to a new competitive mode coming at the start of 2026, with rankings and a timed event designed for the very high level.
The question arises, will this new season be able to revive interest in the game more than two years after its release? The overhaul of the reward system, equipment and seasonal content is an important point since it concentrates most of the criticism towards the game. It remains to be seen whether the fans will be there.
