Following numerous leaks in recent months, the arrival of Legion Go S is no longer a surprise. Its formalization remains an event since this portable console has the particularity of running under SteamOS, the Steam Deck operating system. The success of Valve’s console comes largely from its interface and the company now wants to share it with certain partners, such as Lenovo. The ambitious Chinese manufacturer offers the Lenovo Legion Go S – Powered by SteamOSbut does not lose sight of its ambitions under ambitions. The new console also arrives under Windows, something to satisfy all players? Other elements may work in favor of the new Legion Go S.
After an imposing and expensive Legion Go, Lenovo provides a more accessible solution with the Legion Go S. The new portable console integrates an 8-inch LCD touch screen displaying in 1,920 X 1,200 pixels (16:10 format), with a rate variable refresh rate (VRR) up to 120 Hz. Under the hood, the Legion Go S comes alive thanks to an “exclusive” processor AMD Z2 Goor a processor Ryzen Z1 Extreme. Lenovo adds up to 32GB of 7,500MHz LPDDR5X RAM and a 3-cell 55.5Wh battery. The console supports fast charging up to 65W, has two USB4 (USB-C) ports and a microSD card slot. The whole thing weighs 730 grams.
Windows or SteamOS, quelle Legion Go S choisir?
Lenovo does not want to choose between SteamOS and Windows, offering its new console under both operating systems. We will have the opportunity to review the strengths and weaknesses of each, but the manufacturer’s initiative is interesting for the players. Lenovo assures that the Windows version represents “the ideal choice for gamers who want to play their favorite games wherever they are”. As for the version under SteamOS, the brand believes that it “combines the power of Legion Go S with the console experience of SteamOS”. The latter offers cloud saves, Remote Play or even full access to the Steam Store and the Steam library for a smooth transition between PC and console.
And the Price?
Lenovo indicates that Legion Go S avec Windows will be available in January 2025, from 629 euros. The SteamOS version will arrive in April 2025 and its price will be communicated soon.
Note that Lenovo announces a price of $729.99 for the Windows version with 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. A more accessible version, with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage, will arrive in May for $599.99. As for the SteamOS version, it will arrive at $499 with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage in May.
Finally, Lenovo mentions the existence of a Legion Go 2 prototype with two detachable TrueStrikes controls. This new Legion Go retains an 8.8-inch 144Hz screen with VRR and 500 nits brightness, adding an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip with RDNA graphics. The new version includes up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X RAM at 7,500 MHz and 2 TB of SSD storage, as well as a 74 Wh battery which “allows you to play more games for longer”. The machine weighs 890 g on the scale.
