It’s a collaboration we didn’t see coming. While the Netflix mini-series The Pokémon Receptionist has established itself as a gentle interlude in the magical world of pocket monsters, The Pokémon Company has clearly not finished with stop-motion. This first successful experience will be an opportunity to think bigger. Yesterday, the company announced a historic partnership with Aardman Studios.
A stop-motion Pokémon film is in the works
It’s a “incredible joint project” which is being planned, with a release planned for 2027, without us yet knowing the details of this collaboration. One thing is certain: the talent of Aardman, already at work on licenses Wallace et Gromit or even Chicken Run no longer needs to be proven. THE claymation giant is no stranger to critical and commercial success, and his productions have evolved with time and technology to create a distinct identity in the world of animation.
And The Mystery of the Were-Rabbit and the first part of Chicken Run were able to make an impression in the early 2000s, the studio has brilliantly reinvented itself in recent years, with a less crazy Nuggets Menace, but still as effective when it comes to bring plasticine gallinaceans to life. At the beginning of January, Wallace and Gromit will also be back, for an adventure that we no longer expected, called The Palm of Vengeance.
Building on the success of The Pokémon Receptionist, this partnership already promises to amaze us. “It’s a dream collaboration“, enthuses the Pokémon Company in its official press release. “The members of the Aardman studio have mastered their craft to perfection, and we were dazzled by their talent and creativity. The project we worked on will delight Pokémon fans around the world“.
See you in 2027 on Netflix?
It remains to be seen where the mysterious project will be broadcast. Although a cinema broadcast cannot be ruled out, given the ambitions of the announced collaborationthe film has every chance in the world of landing on Netflix. Aardman studios have chosen the red N for the second part of Chicken Run and for the next adventures of Wallace et Gromit. On the Pokémon side, the platform hosts the majority of animated films and series related to the franchiseand it was she who produced The Pokémon Receptionist.
