Apple has just released a software update for the Vision Pro headset, which launched just over a week ago – and it’s a significant update.
That’s because it provides an easier way to reset your device if you forget the passcode you created for it.
The issue hit the news just days after the $3,499 Vision Pro headset landed in the hands of the first customers on February 2. Before Monday’s update rolled out, if you forgot your Vision Pro passcode you had to bring it to an Apple account. store to ask staff to reset the device. Even worse, if there wasn’t a store nearby, you’d have to send it to AppleCare customer service.
The good news is that Monday’s update – visionOS 1.0.3 – puts an end to this absurd situation, allowing such a reset to be performed quickly and from the comfort of your own home. The software, spotted on Apple’s update pages by MacRumors, can be installed by opening Vision Pro’s Settings app and going to the software updates section.
It’s not clear how many people ended up having to take their Vision Pro to an Apple store or ship the device within just a few days of receiving the device, but it was clearly an absurd procedure to have to reset it. For example, with an iPhone you will be given an on-screen option to reset the handset if you forget the passcode. If you select this, simply enter your Apple ID and password to erase the contents of the phone before restoring it from a backup from iCloud or your computer. You certainly don’t have to stroll to an Apple Store to get the job done.
This is the third software update Apple has released for the Vision Pro and the first since the device shipped. In addition to a simplified reset procedure, the update also includes unspecified “major” bug fixes, according to Apple’s release notes.
In other Vision Pro news, Apple engineers working on the headset have reportedly claimed that it will likely take four generations of the device before it reaches its ideal form, with improvements expected in terms of size, weight, comfort, the software, the usability of the headset. and more.
