Today’s Wordel is a challenge for whales. Don’t worry: we have all the instructions and hints you need to keep your streak up.
But before we jump in the hints and solutions for the puzzle of Friday, April 4, let’s go over the base of Wordel.
Wordel is a word puzzle that gives players six chances to guess a word of five letters. Originally made by software engineer Josh Wardle and released to the public in 2021, the puzzle was taken over by the New York Times in 2022 after an enormous popularity.
Players can choose any “starting word” to start the puzzle. From there, blocks turn green when the right letter is in the right place, yellow when the correct letter is in the wrong place and gray when the letter does not exist in the puzzle.
The Wormle editor of the Times Tracy Bennett told Today.com in an interview in 2023 that she did not think that “only word is a bad choice.” After analyzing 515 million matches in 2023, the Wordrebot of the New York Times recommended “Trace” as a solid starter word for every day.
You can play Wordel for free, but to save your statistics and see a deeper analysis, you need a subscription in the New York Times or a full New York Times subscription.
