HBO will have to adapt to a major change for the rest of the series The Last of Us. After the departure of Neil Druckmann to the writing part, it is the turn of Danny Ramirez, who appeared briefly in season 2, not to resume his role in season 3 due to scheduling conflicts. Information confirmed after being relayed by the specialized press, which says a lot about the future of the series.
In season 2, Danny Ramirez played Manny, a member of the WLF and close to Abby, present during the expedition led from Seattle to Wyoming to track down Joel. A deliberately discreet role on screen in this first part of the story, but full of meaning for the rest. Like the game The Last of Us Part IIthe series must gradually shift its point of view and focus more on Abby and those around her, in order to blur the line between heroes and antagonists. Manny was expected to become one of the pillars of this new prospect, which makes his replacement all the more difficult.
Who will replace Danny Ramirez?
This departure, however, is not linked to a lack of interest in the series. Danny Ramirez is one of the most sought-after actors of his generation today. After Top Gun: Maverick and his integration into the MCU in the role of Joaquin Torres, now new Falcon, the actor is expected in Avengers : Doomsday and potentially in Avengers : Secret Wars. Heavy productions, with restrictive schedules, which explain this choice without calling into question the importance of The Last of Us.
The series has nothing more to prove. Since its launch, The Last of Us is a resounding critical and public success. The first seasons each time brought together millions of spectators around the world, broke records for HBO and reaped a shower of awards, saluting both the writing and the performances of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
HBO has already confirmed that the adaptation of The Last of Us Part II would span several seasons. Season 3 is therefore thought of as a logical continuation, with a narrative refocusing on Abby. It now remains to be seen who will take over the role of Manny and whether HBO will manage to find an actor capable of establishing himself in such a sensitive narrative arc. One thing is certain, despite this setback, The Last of Us moves forward with the confidence of a work that has become one of the most important adaptations of the decade, in just two seasons.
