I’ve spent the past eight months testing sleep trackers from the biggest names in wearable tech including Apple, Garmin, and Whoop. But the Oura Ring 3 is the one I keep recommending to friends wanting to learn more about their sleep. And this Labor Day the Ring 3 Tracker is down to $199 (was from $299) at Oura.
I hardly ever see the Oura Ring discounted, and to me a top-rated sleep tracker for under $200 is worth a look when shopping this year’s Labor Day mattress and sleep deals. The Oura Ring 3 isn’t the newest model, but I think it’s the best value for money as it offers a lot of the same functionality as the more expensive Ring 4 (see our Oura Ring 4 review for more).
Here’s what you need to know…
Is the Oura Ring a reliable sleep tracker?
The Oura Ring 3 has proved itself as a reliable health tracker among Tom’s Guide’s testing panel. It helped one of our team detect sleep apnea and, in terms of sleep tracking, I’d even place it above the $399 Apple Watch 10.
Its sleep reports are thorough, including total sleep time, sleep efficiency, restfulness, sleep stages and latency, as well as oxygen saturation and heart rate information.
Although this sounds like a lot of data to absorb in the morning, the app is digestible and easy to navigate.
While testing the Oura Ring 3, I’ve found the metrics it gives me accurately reflect my night’s sleep and how I felt upon waking. And as well as measuring your sleep, you can find helpful tips on how to improve it.
Don’t just take my word for it: a sleep-tracking study by Brigham and Women’s Hospital took the Oura Ring Gen 3, Apple Watch Series 8 and Fitbit Sense 2 to the lab to compare them against polysomnography testing (that is, the “gold standard” of sleep assessment).
The researchers concluded that the Oura Ring Gen 3 performs the best with up to 10% greater accuracy, especially when it comes to differentiating sleep stages.
