The iPhone 16 represents a fairly timid evolution, particularly in terms of design. The changes are subtle and the series remains faithful to the codes in force at Cupertino for several generations. The big news of the year is software with the arrival of Apple Intelligence, which does not concern – for the moment – French users. The iPhone 16, including the Pro models, will have more interest from April 2025, but eyes will turn to the iPhone 17.
The rumors keep coming and one of the new products for next year could be the iPhone 17 Slim (or Air). This thinner and lighter model would replace a Plus model which is still struggling to find its place within the range. According to The Information, the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max could also benefit from a significantly redesigned design. The titanium frame could disappear in favor of an aluminum frame, offering more lightness and a more ecological approach. On the other hand, this material is less resistant than titanium and the consumer could lose out.
The iPhone 17 Pro is going to transform into Google Pixel
The other major development concerns the back of the device and the layout of the camera. The square block, in use for many years, would disappear to make way for a horizontal aluminum strip. This change in style would bring the future iPhone 17s very close to the Pixels developed by Google.
Appearing a few days ago, the new design seems to be confirmed if we receive new information from China. A new photo shared on Weibo allegedly refers to the metal frame of the iPhone 17 Pro. It comes from the assembly line and also shows the locations for the different buttons, including the control button for the camera. Above all, we note the important place left to the future photo block of the device.
The information must be taken with the usual precautions, but the famous leaker Digital Chat Station, – known for its reliability – confirms that Apple will opt for this design. He adds that many Android manufacturers should follow this path to offer a “headband” on the back. This choice also confirms the desire of American brands, such as Google or Apple, to move away from the circular photo block in vogue among Chinese manufacturers.
On the Cupertino side, this change would mark a new chapter for its famous smartphone. The design has evolved relatively little since the appearance of the iPhone 12, even if the appearance of the Dynamic Island has caused a lot of ink to flow. For the rest, the firm has mainly refined its copy by making slight improvements to each new version.
The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro are expected to hit the market in September 2025. Until then, other rumors and leaks should emerge regarding the four expected models.
