A FORMER Trader Joe’s employee took to social media to reveal store secrets including how shoppers could score $500 by signing up to a website.
The TikToker said she was “spilling all the tea on Trader Joe’s secrets” after having worked for the retailer for five months.
She also claimed everybody spending more than $10 was entitled to a free mystery bag.
However the response to her video was pretty damning, with many respondents calling it a scam.
“Omg lady… YOU ARE INSAME!! Y’all… there is NOTHING free we are gonna give you! And TJ’s gift cards can only be loaded up to $100 a piece.
“Have fun getting scammed,” said one commenter.

“Do they really give a $500 GC? That sounds too good to be true,” said another.
“It’s not true, I’m sorry. She’s either scamming you or retaliating for getting fired of something. Our company does NOT do this. Not one store within the company does,” replied another TikToker.
Those who spend regularly with the retailer were particularly interested in the mystery bag.
“I spend about $100 a week in NYC and I have never gotten a mystery bag,” said one.
“A mystery bag?? What is that?? Never have receive that or even seen them in store, said another commenter.
“It’s not a real thing,” replied another.
The video attracted more than 2,000 comments since it went live five days ago.
Jenny (@jennytraderjoes) posted the video and her account has 1,810 followers, though she has only posted one video – the same one – twice.
SOCIAL EVENT
Trader Joe’s was the subject of another social media video this week.
Instagrammer Natasha Fischer (@traderjoeslist) posted a video about the retailer’s new frozen Chicken Mole frozen meal.
How to cut the cost of your grocery shop
BELOW are some tips on how to reduce the amount you spend on groceries.
- Write yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it isn’t on your list, don’t put it in the trolley
- Create a budget – Work out a weekly budget for your food shopping
- Never shop hungry – You are far more likely to buy more food if your tummy is rumbling
- Don’t buy pre-chopped veggies or fruit – The extra they’ll charge for chopping can be eye watering
- Use social media – Follow your favourite retailers to find out about the latest deals
- Be disloyal – You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
- Check the small print – It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/litre when comparing offers so you’re making a like for like decision as a bigger box won’t necessarily mean you get more
- Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up to them all. They all work slightly differently – work out what bonus suits you better and remember to trade in your points for additional rewards
She declared the dish, which costs $6.99, was “phenomenal” and said she was “blown away” by it.
Recommending the product to followers Natasha said: “The depth of flavor is incredible, and it’s so easy to prepare.
“I enjoyed it as-is, but it’d also be amazing in tacos, enchiladas, or over rice with guacamole.”
Meanwhile, shoppers are unhappy the grocery chain has discontinued its popular Cheese Pastry Rolls.
“It’s infuriating but FAR more products have become seasonal, and perish the thought we miss them,” said one.
“I really hate when traders discontinues successful and delicious products. Feels like a backstab (yes, being dramatic),” commented another.
The company has also recently discontinued one of its frozen vegetable staples.
