A JUDGE has denied Travis Hunter’s fathers request for a lightened sentence.
After Hunter was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars, his father requested a change to his sentence to help his football career.

However, the judge labeled the request as “special treatment,” and threw it out.
A police report indicates that Hunter Sr. was pulled over for not having “any lights for the tag” on his car in Lantana, Florida, in November 2023.
Police say there were drugs, a pistol, and a loaded magazine found in the car during a search.
The search was reportedly conducted as Hunter Sr. was a frequent traffic offender who drove without a license.
He pleaded guilty to drug possession and a gun charge after being charged with illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
Hunter Sr. was also convicted in 2018 for sale or possession of heroin with intent to sell.
After his most recent arrest, he was sentenced to 90 days in jail plus three years of probation.
He also had to serve one year in community control supervision from a plea deal.
Hunter Sr. is currently serving that community control supervision, and is confined to his home unless working or attending a state-approved activity.
Hunter Sr.’s lawyer, Bradford Cohen, attempted to argue that his son could now employ him due to his status in the NFL.
Cohen asked for Hunter Sr.’s restrictions to be eased so he could “assist his son with furthering his very promising career with the National Football League.”
The Judge did not agree with Cohen’s request.
“I hear these circumstances have changed, you know, my hat’s off to his son,” Palm Beach County Judge Howard Coates said, via USA Today.
“I don’t know that changes the father’s situation for me. In fact, it’s given me some concern that you’re almost arguing for special treatment.”
Cohen maintained that he wasn’t seeking special treatment for Hunter Sr.
NFL important dates 2025 season
March 12 – Free Agency begins
April 24-26 – NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin
September 4 – 2025 season opener (TBC vs Eagles)
November 27 – Thanksgiving Day triple header
January 4, 2026 – End of regular-season
February 8, 2026 – Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California
“I’m not, judge, and I’ll tell you why,” Cohen said.
“If someone was to win the lottery and someone was to get a new job, if someone was to move to a different neighborhood, all those situational changes aren’t asking for favoritism whatsoever.
“What I’m saying is his situation has changed in that his son is able to employ him.
“His son is able to give him stable housing and a stable environment. Those things are not asking for special treatment, judge.
“Those are simply issues that arose that changed the situation of an individual.”
Hunter Sr. was given permission to attend the NFL Draft and his son’s wedding, but it seems that will be the extent of his eased restrictions.
