New cataclysm in the video game industry and in particular on the PlayStation side. In a recent Bloomberg report, published a few minutes ago, we learn that several games have just been suddenly canceled. Among the list of games, we find two multiplayer service games including one game God of War at Bluepoint Games and the Bend Studio project. Again.
Two PlayStation multiplayer games canceled
Bloomberg just confirmed a few minutes ago that Sony Interactive Entertainment had made the decision to stop suddenly the development of two sets of services. The first, a God of War multiplayer game which was developed par Bluepoint Games. The second was the Bend Studios project which, according to recent leaks and recent job postings, was supposed to be a service game with a « ambiance » military science fiction.
Unfortunately for Bend, after the cancellation of Days Gone 2then the cancellation of their project aroundUnchartedIt is a third consecutive project which falls into the water. According to the Bloomberg report, this decision was taken following a “recent review” which led to the cancellation of these two unannounced titles. Obviously, after the decision was made, PlayStation would have confirmed its intention to continue to support the development of single-player and multiplayer games.
Comments similar to those of Herman Hulst, the co-CEO of PlayStation who confirmed last December that Sony’s objective was to support both single-player games, symbols of PlayStation’s strong licenses, but also to continue to invest in service games to attract new fans.
In the Bloomberg report, carried out by journalist Jason Schreier, it is mentioned that Sony does not should not close the two impacted studios : “Bend and Bluepoint are highly accomplished teams who are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family, and we are working closely with each studio to determine what their next projects are.”
These two projects are added to the list many canceled projects in recent months. In addition to the failure of Concord last summer, it was Naughty Dog which had to face the cancellation of The Last Of Us Online in December 2023. Since then, several unannounced projects would have been canceled internally.
