The University of Design, Innovation and Technology (UDIT) has become a new partner of the Southern European Cluster in Photonics and Optics (Secpho)a European cluster dedicated to connecting companies, technology centers and research groups focused on converting disruptive ideas into real solutions.
Founded in 2009, this cluster is dedicated to the promotion of cutting-edge technologies, such as photonics, microelectronics, quantum computing, Blockchain or robotics. It includes more than a thousand deep tech experts, and can only be accessed by express invitation.
In addition to promoting technologies, it also facilitates collaboration in R&D&I projects, fosters talent and channels access to financing for technological initiatives. Its activity supports more than 2,950 scientific publications and 165 patents per year, generating a joint turnover of more than 5.8 billion euros per year.
Secpho is also a European reference in technologies applied to Industry 4.0, such as IoT, Big Data, cloud computing or AI. Among others, it has been the driving force behind the Seclurefa projects (miniaturized and scalable LiDAR sensors that can be encapsulated in industrial robots to advance process automation); Dronstore II (development of an autonomous drone with integrated 5G technology, advanced vision and AI, for indoor logistics; and Optienergy.
The latter is a digital platform to facilitate control and flexibility in the management of renewable energy production and consumption.
With the incorporation of UDIT to Secpho, the university will see its research capabilities linked to the more than 150 organizations that make up the cluster.
According to Javier Pascual Soriano, Director of the International Campus of Technology, Innovation and Applied Sciences of UDITthanks to this new association they open “important collaboration opportunities in a unique Deep-Tech ecosystem, together with leading Spanish and European companies, allowing our students and teachers to participate in real projects that are transforming society through innovation and technology”.
Furthermore, he highlighted that “Its exclusive job board, to which our students will have preferential access, allows us to guarantee them job opportunities in cutting-edge technology and applied science companies.”.
