You’ll have to hurry if you’re hoping to get your hands on a third-generation iPhone SE or an iPhone 14. Currently offered for sale by Apple, these models represent more affordable alternatives to the latest models. However, they will soon disappear from the shelves if we are to believe the information from our colleagues at iGeneration. The site specializing in Apple news ensures that the iPhone SE 2022, the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus will disappear from stores in European Union countries. France is therefore directly concerned and marketing will end by the end of the year.
iPhones with a Lightning port must go
The withdrawal of these models from sale is linked to the entry into force of the new European regulations on the universal charger. In France, it is actually specified that smartphones must have a USB Type-C port as a universal charger from December 28, 2024. However, older models from the Cupertino company have the proprietary Lightning port.
Apple waited for the iPhone 15 to offer USB-C on its famous phone. A major change for the American company which had two options for its old models. It could launch a new variant with a USB-C port or stop marketing it. The manufacturer logically chose the second option for models at the end of their life, while the AirPods Max headset was entitled to the appearance of a USB-C port. Remember that several categories of devices sold in the EU will have to offer a USB-C port from the entry into force of the decree on December 28. The list is as follows:
- mobile phones and smartphones;
- tablets;
- cameras;
- headphones and earphones;
- game consoles;
- speakers;
- e-readers;
- keyboards;
- mouse ;
- portable navigation systems;
The iPhone SE should return in 2025 with USB-C
While the iPhone 14 already knows its successors, the third generation iPhone SE is still waiting for an heir. Spring 2025 should be marked by the presentation of a fourth generation iPhone SE. This model will bring several new features, including a design inspired by the iPhone 14 and a USB-C port. Apple should therefore rely on the old to make the new for its future affordable model.
Highly anticipated, it could have free rein in the catalog with the disappearance of the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus. These models should have continued to exist until the arrival of the iPhone 17, or for around nine more months. The arrival of a new iPhone SE promises to be important for Apple on the European market.
