Walmart’s drone delivery service is proving a success, prompting an expansion to cover millions more customers by the end of 2027.
Walmart, and its drone delivery partner Wing, intend to expand airborne deliveries to 150 more stores over the next two years. That’s on top of previously announced expansions, increasing the target to over 270 drone-compatible locations.
The new expansions are estimated to increase Walmart’s drone coverage to over 40 million Americans, around 10% of the current US population. However, the service disproportionately focuses on metropolitan areas, which is a common problem with super-fast delivery options.
The newly announced locations include an expansion to the West Coast with services debuting in Los Angeles. It also announced plans for drone delivery locations in Cincinnati, St. Louis, and Miami.
In June last year, Walmart announced five new cities would receive coverage: Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa. Services have only rolled out to one of those areas so far with Atlanta debuting in early December.
This new announcement saw Wing confirm Houston is up next with deliveries starting Thursday Jan. 15. This means we may see a six month or longer wait for these newly announced territories to become available.

“Drone delivery plays an important role in our ability to deliver what customers want, exactly when they want it,” said Greg Cathey, Senior Vice President of digital fulfillment transformation at Walmart. “By expanding drone delivery to new major metro areas, we are helping more customers solve for their last-minute needs faster than ever before.”
Wing says Walmart deliveries from existing locations have tripled in the last six months when compared to the first six months of 2025. Take this increase with a pinch of salt as Wing isn’t comparing deliveries year-over-year meaning it doesn’t take into account factors like increased spending around the holidays.
