MILLIONS are being warned that popular smart home gadgets will suddenly stop working this week as a major tech brand switches them off for good.
The products, including smart plugs, switches and a video doorbell, were widely sold in the 2010s and linked to Google Home and Alexa.
Belkin has confirmed its once-popular Wemo devices will shut down on January 31, leaving some users with useless kit overnight.
The firm said it made the “difficult decision” to end technical support for older Wemo products after smart plugs and switches proved “not a sustainable, profitable business”.
From January 31, the Wemo app and all cloud-based features, including remote access and voice controls, will be disabled permanently.
That means users relying on Google Home or voice assistants will be locked out entirely, with no workaround available.

Belkin said it is stepping back from Wemo to focus resources on other parts of its business after launching the brand in 2011.
The only exception is a limited number of devices that can still run locally through Apple HomeKit.
However, they must already be set up before the deadline or they will stop working too.
Belkin warned that after January 31, users will no longer be able to add Wemo devices to HomeKit.
Eleven products will continue working via Apple’s Home app, including smart plugs, light switches and a video doorbell.
These include the Wemo Mini Smart Plug, Outdoor Plug and Dimmer Light Switch.
Customers with products still under warranty may be eligible for a partial refund, Belkin said.
