The channels of the TF1 group are in the color of the saga Jurassic this week. After the broadcasts of Jurassic Park et Jurassic Worldthe first channel offers the final component of the saga carried by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard This Sunday, July 6. This is the first time that the group can offer The world after Clearly. But while a new film has just invested the cinemas of the world, baptized Renaissancewe take stock of the best and especially the worst of the franchise started under the aegis of Spielberg in 1993.
7 – Jurassic World: the world after (2022)
In 2022, Universal Pictures wanted to create the event with the release of its world after. Title very about leaving an unprecedented health crisis and while the dark rooms are struggling to bring the spectators together. With this third film carried by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, the studio wants to conclude the journey started in 2015 in style. It was also a question of cating nostalgia, by signing the return of Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler and Ian Malcolm. The film also formulated the promise to evoke the cohabitation between dinosaurs and humans, two creatures at the top of the food chain which was to share the resources of a planet that comes to miss it.

Finally, it will above all have been a question of multiplying to do it in the repetition and to confine the heroes on another island of all dangers. No raptor with the synopsis. Result of the races: a pale copy of Jurassic Park who does not pay the luxury of being captivating like his elders. We said in our criticism at that time: “A pretext film that leaves us with ice and confirms that the spin-off must choose the way of extinction, and for good this time ”.
6 – Jurassic World (2015)
A new film Jurassic14 years after the critical failure of the third part of the main saga, the idea was absurd. But progress in terms of visual effects were enough to justify this risk -taking, dinosaurs promised to be more realistic than ever. Steven Spielberg had nevertheless not repaired the realization of this suite, contenting himself with acting as a producer. In his place, Colin Trevorrow had the heavy responsibility to honor the adventure cinema as much as to reinvent the recipe. A fairly substantial weight on the shoulders of a director who has only one film to his credit.
And … well it was not very inspired. If the creatures of the Cretaceous are splendid, more likely than ever, it is clear that the film has not managed to encapsulate the whole atmosphere and the aesthetics of Jurassic Park. This is particularly true on the side of the more scary slope of the proposal, the dinosaurs will never appear as a threat large enough to take off from our seat. The film prefers to linger on Comedy and flood of actionwe will go back to the big frights. A film that sells popcorn if not blowing us.
5 – Jurassic Park III (2001)
This time, the emblematic director will not be. The director, motivated by the critical success of his Schindler listwants to devote itself to more serious and less difficult productions. It must be said that he did not have easy life on the shooting of the first film, so much so that the shots for the film carried by Ralph Fiennes had the effect of a breath of fresh air. So it’s Joe Johnston, who will make later Captain America : First Avengerwhich will immortalize this unprecedented story. The film brings Alan Grant, eight years after the events of the first film. The paleontologist played the guides for a rich couple and in the hope of raising enough money to finance their research. But when their plane crashes on Isla Sorna, things turn vinegar.
When it was released in 2001, Jurassic Park III was shunned by criticism and the public. If the film brought back more than $ 365 million at the time, without inflation, the absence of author Michael Crichton is notable. The author of the novels of the saga did not appreciate the chaos widespread behind the scenes and preferred to pass his turn. The third film in the saga will then multiply hazardous ideas, focusing on the reproduction of a recipe rather than a desire to tell more about these exciting colossi.
4 – Jurassic World : Fallen Kingdom (2018)
In 2018, Trevorrow briefly passed the hand to the realization. Before regaining service for The world afterthe director entrusts Juan Antonio Bayona with the good care to breathe a little more dread into this reboot. He has the experience of horror with The orphanagethat of the great spectacle and the disaster with The Impossible. He must still work from a scenario in Trevorrow and Derek Connolly. The idea is for them to find a pretext to return their heroes: Owen and Claire on the island of Jurassic World threatened by a volcano who will eruption. The dinosaurs are in danger and our two characters are the only ones to worry about it. An approach that is quite good but which is parasitized by the madness of the quantities of Universal.
If the realization of Bayona does not deserve, especially when it comes to exploring the confined interiors of an old manor, the director is slowed down by a plot that lacks biting and which makes doubtful choices. This is particularly true regarding human cloning, which will slow down this film and its successor. We also have a lot of trouble with the heroes of this new saga, more unbearable for each of their appearances.
3 – Jurassic World Renaissance (2025)
This summer, dinos are resurfacing. Exit Claire, Owen and especially Colin Trevorrow, it is Gareth Edwards who takes care of the staging. David Koepp, author of the first two films, is writing. New characters are immortalized and they go to a new island. Under the impetus of the boss of a pharmaceutical company, a mercenary, a paleontologist and a captain are sent to an Ingen site to recover the DNA of three mutant dinosaurs. Their blood could make it possible to develop a remedy for one of the most widespread ailments in the world.
Jurassic World Renaissance is the best of the worst Jurassicfar ahead of the recent Proposals of Universal. At the staging, the dad of Rogue One Had fun with scale games and style effects to surprise. Too bad the story does not follow (yet) and that it spends too much time with its secondary intrigues than building its shock trio. Everything is predictable, lack of heart and struggling to emulate the attachment that spectators had with the original trio. We have a good time, but less good than hoped. Our criticism is available here.
2 – Jurassic Park II (1997)
Barely four years after the first Jurassic ParkSteven Spielberg puts the cover by adapting The lost world. The second novel features Ian Malcom and Sara Harding as they explore a B site B. The film takes up this idea but made the survivor of Jurassic Park a rescuer of his girlfriend. She is on Isla Sorna to capture images of dinosaurs in total autonomy. The repentant capitalist hopes to prove to the world that creatures must be protected and left quiet. At the same time, Ingen’s board of directors sends a team to recover specimens and open a new park in the middle of San Diego.
If this second film does not have the appeal of novelty or the ability to surprise, it benefits from the rise of horror in the saga. With a scene suspended in the void of rare efficiency and a hunt in the lush jungle which also affects its target, the lost world is a new profitable addition to the saga. The knobs are pushed thoroughly (a raptor is mastered thanks to a gymnastics figure) and we rub our hands when a T-Rex crosses a residential area. That’s all we hoped for, seeing the dinosaurs confronted with our civilized world. Too bad the sequence lasts only a few moments …
1 – Jurassic Park (1993)
It won’t surprise anyone, but Steven Spielberg’s first film remains unrivaled. All the scenes are iconic, neat and have marked the history of the big screen. From the discovery of flesh and bone dinosaurs by Ellie and Alan to a scene in the kitchens under high tensions via the final and its twirling banner, everything in the first part is only fear and wonder, exactly what these prehistoric animals provide to all enthusiasts. The film is also a technical feat, which will mark a turning point for the film industry involved 3D monsters when animatronics (especially used for tight plan) are no longer enough.
The film redefined the show on the big screen, pushing realism on a scale that no one could anticipate. Furthermore, Spielberg will have defined a whole collective imagination around these missing creatures and will inspire many other filmmakers. Jurassic Park is cult … but you probably didn’t need us to find out. As cult that the license was unable to really reproduce the miracle.
