As per ByteDance’s Seed department, it has improved image generation speed by over 10 times, making it one of the fastest AI image generators out there. So, what exactly is Seedream 4.0, and what does it offer? Read on.
Seedream 4.0 And Its Features
As per the company, the Seedream 4.0 combines the text-to-image generation capabilities of Seedream 3.0 with advanced editing tools that were previously available through SeedEdit 3.0. This means users can now generate an image from scratch and make detailed edits. Here is everything that Seedream 4.0 offers:
Text-to-Image Creation: Generate visuals from text prompts with a quick turnaround time.
Image Editing: You can add, delete, or replace elements using just text instructions. ByteDance suggests using clear language to get better results.
Reference Image Support: It can bring the similar style, design elements, and character details from an existing image to replicate or redesign visuals accordingly.
Multi-Image Input: You can now upload multiple images and guide the AI to blend, replace, or transfer styles across them, just like Google DeepMind’s Nano Banana.
Image Sequences: It supports generating a series of images with consistent characters and styles.
Performance vs Google’s Nano Banana
ByteDance claims that Seedream 4.0 outperformed Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (Nano Banana) in internal testing. On its in-house MagicBench benchmark, it scored better in terms of prompt accuracy, visual alignment, and aesthetics. However, these are ByteDance’s internal results, and there’s no third-party report yet to confirm these claims.
Seedream 4.0 Price And Availability
Seedream 4.0 is currently available in China through ByteDance’s Jimeng and Doubao AI platforms. Businesses can access it via the Volcano Engine cloud service. On Fal.ai, it is priced at $0.03 per image, slightly cheaper than Google’s Nano Banana.
