Apple Intelligence, the company’s new artificial intelligence feature coming to supported iPhone models, will roll out in phases, starting with the release of iOS 18.1 on October 28, according to recent reports.

The initial release introduces a range of AI-powered capabilities to iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 owners. Assuming macOS Sequoia 15.1 and iPadOS 18.1 are released alongside iOS 18.1, Apple Intelligence will also be available on silicon-powered Apple Macs and iPads on October 28.

The first wave of Apple Intelligence features includes improved writing tools for rewriting, summarizing, and proofreading text, as well as a redesigned Siri interface. Users can also expect notification summaries for apps like Messages and Mail, and a new “Clean” tool in Photos that can remove unwanted elements from images using generative AI. For more information, see our Apple Intelligence guide.

However, the full suite of Apple Intelligence features will be rolled out gradually in various iOS 18 release updates:

  • iOS 18.1 (October 28): The first wave of features, including improved writing tools, notification summaries, and standard Siri improvements.
  • iOS 18.2 (expected December): This update brings more advanced capabilities, including ChatGPT support, Image Playground for AI-powered image editing, and Genmoji for creating custom emojis.
  • iOS 18.3 and 18.4 (early 2025): Subsequent updates will continue to expand Apple Intelligence, with the complete overhaul of Siri, which promises more precise app management and personalized responses, scheduled for early 2025.

Apple is taking a measured approach to the rollout, likely to ensure a smooth user experience as it prepares its AI cloud servers for increased traffic.

Apple is also working to refine these features and address any bugs in the latest beta versions before making them generally available to the general public. As the rollout continues, Apple is expected to add support for more languages as well.
