‘El 47’, ‘Second Prize’ and ‘La infiltrada’ have been the stars of the nominations for the 39th edition of the Goya Awards, which will be presented on February 8 in the city of Granada. Among all the films that will compete in the 25 categories, the most nominated is ‘El 47’, with 14 nominations. It is closely followed by ‘The Infiltrator’ with 13 nominations, and behind it, with 11, ‘Second Prize’, which is our bet for the Oscars.
We can now start reviewing many of the films nominated for this year’s awards at home. We tell you where to see them.
All the nominees and where to see them
Second prize
One of the most unique films of the year (that’s why we sent it to the Oscars) is this fictional biopic of Los Planetas that “is not a film about Los Planetas”, but that goes through all the codes of rock biography. As unclassifiable as the band’s own music, it could sweep the Goya awards despite having fewer nominations than others.
- Nominated for Best Film, Best Direction (Isaki Lacuesta and Pol Rodríguez), Best New Actor (two: Cristalino and Daniel Ibáñez), Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Original Song, Best Production Direction, Best Artistic Direction, Best Sound, Best costume design
- You can see it in Movistar Plus+
The red virgin
The big surprise this year has been not finding Nawja Nimri nominated for her extraordinary composition as a mother obsessed with educating the woman of the future, turning her daughter into one of the most brilliant minds in Spain in the 1930s and one of European references on female sexuality. Two women, mother and daughter, confronted in a thunderous women’s film (also thanks to its directors, Paula Ortiz).
- Nominated for Best direction (Paula Ortiz), Best supporting actress (Aixa Villagrán), Best original song, Best production direction, Best artistic direction, Best sound, Best makeup and hairdressing, Best special effects, Best costume design
- You can see it on Prime Video
House on fire
A corrosive dramatic comedy with an extraordinary cast featuring the most veteran performers and which narrates the process of the decomposition of a family. A mature woman wants to spend a weekend with the whole family in her house in Cadaqués, on the Costa Brava, even though the core is not what it was: she has been divorced for years, her ex has a new partner and her children. They have grown up and don’t pay much attention to him.
- Nominated for Best Film, Best Leading Actor (Alberto San Juan), Best Leading Actress (Emma Vilarasau), Best Supporting Actor (Enric Auquer), Best Supporting Actress (two: Macarena García and María Rodríguez Soto’), Best Original Screenplay, Best production management
- You can see it and Netflix
The blue star
In a brilliant year for films where music is a nuclear part of the plot, this one goes in a diametrically opposite direction to ‘Second Prize’, in a much more intimate direction. In the nineties, a famous Spanish rocker tours Latin America looking to rediscover his vocation, leaving addictions behind. There he meets a veteran musician who is struggling and takes him in, becoming his tutor on many levels.
- Nominated for Best Film, Best Original Screenplay, Best Newcomer Actor (two: Cuti Carabajal and Pepe Lorente), Best Newcomer Actress (Mariela Carabajal), Best New Direction (Javier Macipe), Best Editing, Best Sound, Best Costume Design
- You can see it in Filmin and Movistar Plus+
the house
Based on the wonderful comic by Paco Roca, winner of an Eisner Award in 2020, a modest and intimate film that finds its best findings thanks to its cast and its sincerity. In it, after the death of their father, three brothers and their families gather at the family country house where they spent weekends and vacations during their childhood. You have to decide what to do with the home, which will not be easy at all.
- Nominated for Best Supporting Actor (Óscar de la Fuente), Best Adapted Screenplay
- You can see it in Movistar Plus+
