Like every Saturday, an old acquaintance returns: Saturday’s Hoy No Circula. Indeed, the specific weekend restrictions of the program devised by the CDMX Environment Secretariat (SEDEMA). The one with which we try to reduce the polluting emissions that float in our atmosphere.
To improve air quality, the volume of vehicles on the street is reduced. As? Forcing the most polluting people to stay at home and, therefore, taking cars off the road.
Restrictions apply throughout the week but on Saturdays we have some details to take into account. Restrictions that, as you well know, apply in the 16 municipalities in Mexico City and in the following suburban municipalities of the State of Mexico:
- Atizapan of Zaragoza
- Coacalco de Berriozábal
- Cuautitlan
- Cuautitlán Izcalli
- Chalco
- Chicoloapan
- Chimalhuacan
- Ecatepec de Morelos
- Huixquilucan
- Ixtapaluca
- Peace
- Naucalpan de Juárez
- Nezahualcoyotl
- Nicolas Romero
- Tecámac
- World of Baz
- Tultitlan
- Chalco Valley

What cars and license plates does Hoy No Circula Saturday affect?
Once we have the basics in mind, we will understand how Hoy No Circula works and, specifically, what the specific restrictions are on Saturdays. These will depend, obviously, on the hologram of each car.
Thus, the first thing to remember is that the restrictions apply between 05:00 and 22:00. Yes, at night we will not have to face them.
But we must also keep in mind that not all cars rest on the same days every week. This will depend on the hologram and the last number on the plate. Thus, the following cases can occur:
- Those that can circulate every Saturday
- Those who have to rest every Saturday
- Those who rest every other Saturday
With all this in mind. The first ones who can breathe easy are the owners of cars with hologram 0 and 00, since they will not have to rest on any Saturday of the year. These restrictions do not apply to them.
Quite the opposite for cars with hologram two. In this case, every Saturday they will have to stay at home and, therefore, the Today No Saturday Circulation applies to them every Saturday. Here, there is not much to think about either.
Thus, those who will have to think more about the matter will be the cars with hologram one. In that case, they will depend on the license plate number. Those finishing in an odd number will have to rest on Saturdays of the odd weeks of the month. Quite the opposite are those ending in even numbers.
With this basic account, October 19 corresponds to the third Saturday of the month and, therefore, it will be the cars with the odd hologram that will have to rest. Next week, the fourth Saturday of the month, those with hologram one and a plate ending in an even number will be the ones who will have to rest.
Of course, we must keep in mind that there are some exceptions that allow the circulation of specific vehicles like any other day of the week. In this case, Hoy No Circula does not apply and, of course, neither does Hoy No Circula Saturday:
- Those with hologram 0 and 00
- Those that run on electricity, natural gas or are hybrids
- Those who have a disabled license plate
- All those dedicated to urban transportation services (includes funeral homes)
- Those that offer school or passenger transportation
- Those intended for public safety and/or civil protection
If you fail to comply with these restrictions, the fine will be 20 to 30 times the Measurement and Update Unit (ONE), which is equivalent to 1,924.40 pesos and even 2,886.60 pesos.
