In a post spotted by The Vergea generally very reliable leaker announced the upcoming arrival of the new Lenovo Legion Go S console, with a detail expected by many players: everything indicates that the machine will be equipped with SteamOSthe operating system for Valve’s Steam Deck.
This isn’t exactly a surprise. Earlier this year, Valve had already explicitly mentioned Lenovo’s console, and last week the company introduced a “Powered by SteamOS” label that strongly suggested that this OS would soon arrive on machines comparable to its Steam Deck.
It now appears that the process has progressed well. Earlier this month, this more economical variant of the console was revealed for the first time on Windows Central — a first opportunity to observe the design modifications made by the Chinese manufacturer. On the menu: a redesigned monobloc chassis, smaller screen, a shrunken and repositioned trackpad, or even a Ryzen processor slightly less powerful than that of its big sister.
The first third-party console under the SteamOS flag?
It is now the turn of Evan Blass, a leaker often considered one of the most reliable in the industry, to put his two cents into this matter. In a Twitter/X post, he recently published other images of the future console which include an additional detail, and not the least: we can see a button which seems to be stamped with the Steam logo.
This strongly suggests that the newcomer will sacrifice Windows 11 in favor of SteamOS – a welcome transition, since this operating system is specifically optimized for this type of portable platform.
It’s worth remembering, however, that the white model revealed earlier this month lacked the button in question, and the origin of this difference isn’t entirely clear. Is this simply an older rendering, or is the manufacturer preparing several different versions – a first under Windows and a second under SteamOS? Impossible to say at the moment. To be sure, we will probably have to wait for the official announcement, which could take place during the CES 2025 next January.
