Microsoft has added another Windows 11 24H2 upgrade block for systems running Dirac audio enhancement software due to compatibility issues interfering with sound output.
This known issue only affects PCs running cridspapo.dll and causes applications to stop detecting audio devices connected to the affected devices.
“The incompatibility affects the software component cridspapo.dll, which is part of the audio processing software of these devices,” Microsoft said in a new update to the Windows health dashboard.
“After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, some users reported that their device’s integrated speakers, Bluetooth speakers, and Bluetooth headsets stopped functioning. They also reported that both first- and third-party applications failed to recognize these devices.”
Redmond has applied a security measure to Windows devices running Dirac audio software to prevent this known issue from affecting more users. IT administrators can find this issue under security ID 54283088 in Windows Update for Business reports.
The company advises affected users not to manually update affected PCs using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the Media Creation Tool until Dirac has repaired their audio driver.
“Once the driver that addresses this issue is released by the manufacturer, Microsoft will work together to provide the new driver through Windows Update to resolve this audio issue,” Microsoft added. “The security measure preventing the update to version 24H2 will be lifted after this issue is resolved on end-user devices.”
If you’re using Windows Home or Pro editions, you can check for security holds by going to Start > Settings > Windows Update and selecting “Check for Windows updates.”
If you are under a compatibility block, you will see the message ‘Upgrade to Windows 11 is on its way to your device. There is nothing that requires your attention right now.” message and a “Learn More” link that takes you to a website with more information about security for your PC.
