Workday Inc., the human resources and finance software giant, announced today that it has acquired Flowise, an open-source, low-code platform for building artificial intelligence agents and workflow automation.
Workday provides cloud-based software for human capital management and financial operations, serving more than 11,000 customers worldwide, including over 60% of the Fortune 500. The company has been steadily pushing deeper into AI, recently rolling out new agents designed to handle document-heavy tasks and lighten the load on human resources and legal teams.
Flowise brings in a visual, drag-and-drop builder that supports the full AI development cycle, from prototyping and debugging to analytics and deployment. The project has picked up significant traction, logging millions of chats and workflows, amassing more than 42,000 GitHub stars, and finding adoption in industries from consulting and finance to healthcare and customer support.
“This acquisition is about giving our customers the ability to build and deploy AI agents inside Workday with far more speed and transparency,” said Peter Bailis, Workday’s chief technology officer. “By bringing Flowise into Workday and investing in its open-source foundation, we are empowering our customers and partners to build and deploy their own AI agents on Workday.”
Flowise Chief Executive Henry Heng said the startup was founded to lower the barrier to AI development. Joining Workday, he said, gives the team a chance to broaden that vision and put more powerful tools into the hands of non-technical users.
For Workday’s customers, the deal means faster ways to deploy AI agents across HR and finance, while partners gain tools to accelerate development and expand their services. Developers also get more control over agent behavior and workflows, with Workday positioning Flowise as part of a broader push into “responsible AI” that comprises “human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and secure deployment options, ensuring agents operate with transparency and accountability.”
