They sell like hotcakes in China. Xiaomi’s electric cars are causing a sensation in the Middle Kingdom. Their arrival on the old continent is eagerly awaited, but they could disappoint some. Indeed, Xiaomi’s arrival on the electric car market in Europe will be limited.
For the moment the manufacturer has not made a big leap, but a German importer has pulled the rug out from under it. The auto-china.com site therefore offers SU7 and YU7 in the European Union. But by placing an order via this website, the car you will receive may not meet your expectations.
Astronomical prices
The first obstacle, but also the most important, is undoubtedly the Price. The German importer proudly offers an SU7 Ultra on its website. But it is sold for more than 83,000 euros, compared to 36,000 in China.
Same thing with the brand’s other flagship model, the YU7 Max. It follows the same logic with a very similar price, 82,000 euros in Germany compared to just over 40,000 in China. Finally, the SU7 Ultra, the super-powerful electric car with more than 1,500 horsepower under the hood, is available for 151,502 euros. For comparison, it is sold for 53,000 euros in China. An increase in sales price of 186%.
Cars made for China
But once the check is written, your troubles are not over. Indeed, cars imported from China use the GB/T charging standard, standard in the Middle Kingdom. However, in Europe charging stations are based on the CCS2 standard.
All recharging must therefore be done with an adapter. One more headache, especially when we know that the use of such a system restricts recharging. While the SU7 Max is capable of accepting recharges up to 250W, here it will be limited to 100 W. The charge will thus be strongly limited and therefore much longer.
Prohibited technologies
Finally, last point that could set you back. Xiaomi electric cars are renowned in China for the many smart features that come with these models. But in Europe, the vast majority of these technologies have not yet been developed for Europe. They risk working very poorly on the old continent.
This is about the intelligent voice assistant or even the mapping and navigation system. There is no guarantee that Xiaomi’s electric cars already have the necessary updates to work in European languages.
