On Tuesday, Xiaomi’s first smart home appliance factory began production in China’s Wuhan. The facility marks Xiaomi’s third major manufacturing base, following its automobile factory and smartphone factory. Covering an area of 751 mu (about 500,000 square meters), the new plant focuses on air conditioner production in its first phase and includes six sub-factories spanning the entire supply chain of household and central air-conditioning systems. Powered by Xiaomi’s self-developed Pinecone Intelligent Manufacturing Platform and AI visual inspection technology, the factory can produce one high-end air conditioner every 6.5 seconds, according to the company. The project was completed and put into operation in just 11 months. [Xiaomi, in Chinese]
