It’s the end! After almost a decade on our screens, Stranger Things will bow out this January 1st. It’s been three years now since we last saw Hawkins and its inhabitants… and especially Vecna. Don’t panic, here are the four things you absolutely need to know. We also produced a full video, including new information about the play.

Eleven regained her powers
After the battle against the Mind Flayer, Eleven lost her powers. The fight drained his energy. At the start of the season, she lives with the Byers in California and struggles to find a place among her classmates. Following an incident involving a roller skate and a teenager’s nose, she finds herself under the radar of law enforcement. While she is to be taken to a juvenile prison, the convoy is intercepted by collaborators of Dr. Brenner.
This will make him explore his past to unlock his powers and allow him to regain his former power. It is when she discovers the truth about her past in Hawkins’ laboratory that the young woman will manage to recover her gifts. She still experiences a little trauma when she learns that she is responsible for the death of all the other subjects studied by Brenner and his teams. At least that’s what she thinks before this season’s antagonist makes himself known.
Vecna est Henry Creel
The deaths of Chrissy, Fred and Patrick are the work of a demonic entity hiding in the Upside Down. The character our heroes called Vecna is none other than Brenner’s first patient. In the 1960s, his family moved into a house in Hawkins that his parents thought was haunted. Dead animals in the garden, spiders in the pipes, the Creel family thought they were under a curse. A few months after moving in, they all die in strange circumstances. All except the patriarch Victor Creel who is immediately accused of the murder of his son, his daughter and his wife.
During their investigation, Nancy and Robyn will discover that reality is different. From a young age, Henry had the same gifts as Eleven. He was the one who killed his family by plunging them into the Upside Down. His father only escaped thanks to a song played on the radio. This connection with a happy feeling brought him back to reality and allowed him to escape from his son. After this tragedy, Henry was taken to Brenner’s laboratory to be studied closely. He was the one who killed the other children. He was locked in the Upside Down by Eleven when she was just a child.
Max is in a coma
Vecna needed four victims to open a portal to the Upside Down and take Hawkins. So he sought out vulnerable, guilt-ridden teenagers to insinuate himself into their minds and open his breaches. Max was next on the list, but was saved at the last minute by Kate Bush. She will still be plunged into a coma during her second meeting with Vecna, when the entire Hawkins gang implemented their plan to overthrow Vecna and force him to remain eternally in the Upside Down.
A high-tension finale
In the final episode of season 4, Dustin, Eddie, Max, Eleven, Nancy and the others organize to surprise Vecna and destroy him for good. The plan is simple, Max and Lucas distract the antagonist from the ruined Creel family house, while Nancy and Steve go to the same location in the Upside Down. For their part, Eddie and Dustin organize a Metal concert on the mobile home roof where Chrissy died to attract the demo-bats.
Except that everything will not go as planned and Max will narrowly escape death, while Eddie will sacrifice himself to save Dustin. In California, Eleven will intervene to save her friend, but will not manage to do so in time to save her completely. When the season ends, she’s in the hospital. The California groups (Eleven, Mike, Jonathan and Will) and the Hawkins group (Dustin, Lucas, Nancy, Steve) are reunited. Even Hopper and Joyce, stuck in Russia, manage to find the small Indiana town. Vecna is nowhere to be found.
The deaths of season 4
So far, Stranger Things has been rather tender with its central characters. In the original group, no deaths were recorded. This season 4 still took the horrific part of the project up a notch by not only killing one of the most interesting characters (Eddie), but also by shocking with the violence of its scenes. Vecna’s victims have been numerous, from Chrissy to Fred to Patrick. Max is not yet one of his victims, but his situation is rather precarious.
Let us also remember that Dr. Brenner is dead. Just like Jason Carver, captain of the basketball team who put our team’s plan in jeopardy. We also know that 22 Hawkins residents died during the opening of the faults. Their identity, however, remains a mystery.
