Chinese electric vehicle maker Zeekr said on Monday it will voluntarily recall 38,277 units of its older Zeekr 001 WE 86 models manufactured between July 2021 and March 2024, citing potential battery safety risks. The company said some vehicles may have manufacturing consistency deviations in internal power battery components, which could lead to abnormal increases in internal resistance after long-term use, resulting in performance degradation and, in extreme cases, a risk of thermal runaway.
Zeekr will begin inviting affected owners to service centres in batches from March 6, offering inspections or remote diagnostics and free replacement with new battery packs. The existing electric drivetrain warranty policy will remain unchanged, with lifetime coverage for first owners and an eight-year or 200,000-km warranty for subsequent owners. The recall does not involve currently on-sale models, Zeekr said, adding that its cloud-based monitoring system will continue to monitor vehicle safety. [IThome, in Chinese]
