The success of rival Anthropic in the race for the AI crown and investor interest in the upcoming IPOs are apparently putting OpenAI under increasing pressure. Most recently, Claude developer Anthropic OpenAI was left behind in both valuation and forecast sales for 2026.
OpenAI makes itself attractive for IPO
Even the IPO has already been officially filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In the run-up to its own planned IPO, OpenAI is now planning a major restructuring in order to increase sales figures. As the Financial Times reports, citing several former and current OpenAI employees, ChatGPT is to be converted into a super app. And that within the next few weeks.

“Chat is dead,” one of the more experienced OpenAI employees is said to have declared to the newspaper. Instead, the chatbot should serve as a kind of gateway in the future to get users to use the company’s AI agents and coding tools. These promise higher sales, as Gizmodo writes.
ChatGPT should become a super app
As early as April 2026, OpenAI’s Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser spoke of a super app in a blog post. At that time there was talk of combining the best of ChatGPT, the coding AI Codex as well as browsing via AI agents and other functions. According to the FT report, Dresser, who was responsible for sales and growth targets, may not have been talking about a product that would complement ChatGPT, but rather ChatGPT itself.
Local AI: No problem with these 6 tools
And the plans should go even further. Because OpenAI intends to do without prompts and functions in the future. Instead, the company’s AI models will be able to understand users’ intentions when they use the app or website.
Focus on more lucrative business customers
If there’s one thing OpenAI Anthropic has ahead of it, it’s the number of users. Over 900 million people are said to use ChatGPT regularly. However, this only includes two million business customers, who in turn are responsible for 40 percent of OpenAI sales. With a stronger focus on this lucrative group of users, OpenAI will want to stand up to its rivals in the future.
