Gemini can finally generate your PDF, Word or Excel files directly from the chat, without leaving the conversation. A useful update, albeit with a major oversight.
Gemini, which has just welcomed two major new products in France, has taken a notable step forward in terms of productivity. Until now, Google’s AI only offered export to Google Docs or simple copy and paste of raw text. Since April 29, 2026, Gemini generates downloadable and ready-to-use files directly from the chat interface. A welcome catch-up, but which arrives seven months after Claude, who had already offered this functionality since September 2025, and after ChatGPT, which also offers it for free.
Gemini finally generates your files with a simple prompt
No need to look for a new button hidden in the menus: the ergonomics remain simple. Simply make a request clearly indicating the desired format, and Gemini takes care of the rest. For example, you can ask it to compile a conversation into a single PDF file, summarize ideas in bulk in a Microsoft Word document, or export a budget proposal into an Excel file. Gemini also accepts input attachments, such as handwritten notes, and can convert them directly to the format of your choice.
Once the file is generated, you can download it directly to your machine. For Workspace files (Docs, Sheets, Slides), export to Google Drive is available in one click, a concrete advantage for users already anchored in the Google ecosystem.
Wide format compatibility, with a blind spot
The range of supported extensions is complete: Workspace files (Docs, Sheets and Slides), .pdf, .docx, .xlsx, .csv, LaTeX, Plain Text (TXT), Rich Text Format (RTF) and Markdown (MD). Please note, however: Gemini does not offer native PowerPoint export. You will have to go through Google Slides, then manually export to .pptx, a limitation to keep in mind if you regularly work with Microsoft presentations.
You can now ask Gemini to create Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs, and more directly in your chat. No more copying, pasting, or reformatting, just prompt and download.
