In our practice-oriented iX workshop Secure Authentication for Web Apps: Implementing and Using 2FA and Passwordless Login, administrators, developers and DevOps engineers learn about current procedures for secure authentication. You will learn how public key infrastructures (PKI), two-factor authentication and passwordless login procedures work and how you can use them securely. The focus is on the safe and practical application of these technologies.
The online workshop provides you with modern alternatives to classic authentication and shows the importance of PKI certificates, FIDO and passkeys. You will learn how to manage certificates, use certificate-based authentication and implement security concepts in practice. This includes, among other things, setting up SSH and smart card authentication as well as securing web applications and VPNs. The workshop also highlights the strengths and weaknesses of current methods such as OTP and post-quantum cryptography.
Learning in a practice environment
You will apply your newly acquired knowledge through exercises in a secure virtual environment equipped with OpenSSL and Active Directory Certificate Services. Security expert Tim Schmidt will lead the workshop. As a security researcher at Neodyme AG, he is an expert in code audits, penetration tests and reverse engineering of IoT devices.
Experiences from everyday working life
You benefit from the experience of your trainer Tim Schmidt, who, as a security researcher at Neodyme AG, evaluates authentication procedures, cryptography and login systems in real security analyzes on a daily basis. This not only gives you an understanding of passkeys, FIDO and PKI, but above all insights into typical implementation errors and real attack scenarios.

The workshop goes beyond pure theory: you discuss concrete practical cases, clarify implementation questions and gain an understanding of architectural and security decisions that are often neglected in documentation or AI answers. This gives you security in the practical implementation of modern authentication procedures – from selection to secure integration into your own systems.
Who is it worth taking part for?
The workshop is aimed at administrators, DevOps engineers and developers who want to use modern authentication such as passkeys, FIDO and PKI securely in practice and correctly integrate them into existing systems.
