Nintendo has announced a price increase for the Switch 2 in Europe. The new price will take effect from September 1, 2026. In Japan, older Switch models and Nintendo Online subscriptions will also increase in price. This trend of increasing console prices is strengthening, after that announced by PlayStation.
After PlayStation, it is Nintendo’s turn to announce a price increase for its console. Several regions of the world are affected, including Europe. In Japan, even older Switch models are increasing in price. Nintendo soberly apologized for the situation.
The Switch 2 increases in price
Nintendo officially announced the news on its blog: from September 1, 2026, the Nintendo Switch 2 will from €469.99 to €499.99 in Europe, an increase of €30. From September 1, 2026, the Switch 2 will therefore cost the same price as the PS5 Standard Edition when it is launched.
This price increase concerns different regions of the world: Europe, United States, Canada and Japan. In Japan, in addition to a new price for the Switch 2, the prices of the various Nintendo Online subscriptions are increasing, as well as those of older Switch models, namely the Switch Standard, the Switch OLED and the Switch Lite. In Europe, only the Switch 2 is affected by a price increase. On its blog, Nintendo soberly excused of the situation, and explains having made this decision: “ Taking into account changing market conditions and having considered the global business outlook ».
After PlayStation, Nintendo’s turn
Only Xbox brought us good news by announcing that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is going from €26.99 to €20.99 per month. As a reminder, last March, PlayStation announced an increase in the prices of all its PS5 models:
- PS5 Slim : 649,99 euros (+ 100 euros) ;
- PS5 Digital Edition : 599,99 euros (+ 100 euros) ;
- PS5 Pro : 899,99 euros (+ 100 euros) ;
- PS Portal: 249.99 euros (+ 30 euros)
This generation of consoles is unique, to say the least. For the first time, prices are not falling over the years, but increasing. It is also surprising that Nintendo does not clearly mention the soaring prices of SSDs and RAM to justify this price increase.
Anyway, if you have the idea of buying a Switch 2, it is best to do so before September 1, 2026. After this date, you will pay 30 euros more.
