The French car manufacturer continues to mix popular culture and industry. Renault has just entrusted its new electric city car to a famous American artist for a live transformation on the Champs-Élysées. Under his brushstrokes, the little car went from the real world to the fascinating world of the black and white sketch.
The event took place in the heart of Paris from April 8 to 13, 2026. The public was able to witness a true artistic performance during open sessions within the Renault parade located on the most beautiful avenue in the world. Contemporary artist Joshua Vides was given carte blanche to reinterpret the Twingo E-Tech electric with his inimitable graphic style.
Famous for his visual approach inspired by comics and cartoons, the designer covered the bodywork with strong contrasts and extremely marked black contours. Beyond automobiles, Joshua Vides has already applied this visual language to clothing, public spaces, everyday objects and even architectural places, making this black and white graphic signature one of the most recognizable styles in contemporary art today.
A stunning optical illusion
This meticulous work gives the disturbing impression that the object has lost its volume, as if a very real car had fallen into the world of the sketch. This bold visual experiment is a continuation of the collaborations initiated by Renault since 2021 with contemporary creators. The diamond brand no longer hesitates to entrust its emblematic models to external artists: we remember in particular the performance organized at the Pompidou center for the launch of the electric R5 or the festival dedicated to the new R4.
This revisited Twingo will remain on display until June 9 at 53 rue des Champs-Élysées as part of the Pop Art Car exhibition. Inaugurated several decades ago, the Renault Fund now brings together nearly 300 works by renowned artists, making the brand one of the most committed players in cultural patronage in the global automobile industry. The vehicle will subsequently join this prestigious collection dedicated to artistic cars.
The global marketing director of the automobile group Arnaud Belloni welcomed this aesthetic initiative:
“We offered a rare experience, it is an exceptional performance to see Joshua Vides transform Twingo E-Tech electric live in front of the public into an immersive work. It’s a real shift from reality to sketching, where Twingo becomes a total field of artistic expression. »
Through this original creative approach, the manufacturer once again demonstrates its desire to go beyond the simple utility function of its vehicles. The French brand thus confirms its ambition to permanently anchor the automobile in the abundant world of contemporary creation.
