Firefox will be the official sponsor of the traditional Welsh club Wrexham AFC from the coming 2026/27 season. The logo of the browser from Mozilla will adorn the jerseys of the Wrexham men’s and women’s teams in the new season and in the coming years. Mozilla officially announced this on Wednesday.

Wrexham is anything but an ordinary club. Founded in 1864, the club is the oldest club in Wales and the third oldest professional team in the world. When Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds and American actor Rob McElhenney (Rob Mac) bought the club in November 2020, it was still playing in the fifth-tier English National League. Since then, Wrexham AFC has enjoyed an unprecedented rise and global attention thanks to a TV documentary series on US pay-TV channel FX (Welcome to Wrexham). After three promotions in a row, the club is now playing in the second-tier championship. Wrexham finished last season in seventh place – the highest position in the club’s history – and missed out on the play-offs for promotion to the lucrative Premier League by just two points.
David versus Goliath
Wrexham and Firefox celebrate their coming together as a battle of two Davids against a lot of Goliath. “We love stories about underdogs and both Wrexham and Firefox know the feeling of having to fight against giants,” said Wrexham co-chairs Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.
In addition to the financial benefits of the new deal, those responsible for the club see a match between Firefox’s philosophy as a “challenger brand” and its own “underdog” story, writes the New York Times. A club that had disappeared into obscurity in the lower leagues for 15 years and is now knocking on the door of the Premier League.
“Wrexham AFC has created something real by following its own path and remaining closely connected to the community that supports it. This is a story in which we recognize ourselves,” Mozilla said in a statement. Both Wrexham AFC and Firefox are challenger brands that have built passionate, global communities by doing things differently and staying true to themselves, said Mozilla CMO John Solomon. “Firefox has approached the Internet with exactly this philosophy: making it the way it should be – with people at the center.”

Neither side provided any information about the financial value of the sponsorship agreement. The deal is essentially a continuation of the strategy that contributed significantly to Wrexham’s rise: after TikTok (2021-2023) and United Airlines (2023-2026), another well-known brand, Firefox, is now appearing as a shirt sponsor in the club’s “Hollywood era”.
The partnership will make its debut on the new away kit this weekend when Wrexham travel to Wisła Krakow in Poland for the first game of pre-season. The new home jersey with the Firefox logo will then be presented during the upcoming USA tour. Wrexham face Leeds United in Tampa on July 22nd.
