The electric vehicle Porsche Taycan Turbo GTequipped with the new kit Mantheyset a record for a production electric sedan on the Nürburgring. Driven by Lars Kern, he completed the tour in 6:55.553 minuteseither 12 seconds better than the standard version.
This kit optimizes aerodynamics, suspension, braking and power, bringing the latter to 978 hp in “Attack” mode.
What exactly is the Manthey kit for the Taycan Turbo GT?
The Manthey kit is an extreme performance pack, available as an aftermarket, that transforms the Taycan Turbo GT into a road-legal track machine.
It addresses five key areas: aerodynamics, chassis, wheels, braking and, for the first time on an electric model, the engine. It’s a surgical optimization designed for maximum efficiency in curves and straight lines.
The aerodynamic wave is the most visible. With a massive rear spoilerredesigned diffusers and carbon aerodiscs on the rear wheels, downforce is tripled.
At 310 km/h, the car is slammed into the tarmac by 740 kg of force, a figure worthy of a competition GT. The powertrain has also been revised: the inverter can now manage a current of 1300 ampscompared to 1100 normally. As a result, the power increases to 804 ch in standard mode and up to 978 ch with “Attack” mode.
How does this kit transform track performance?
This pack transforms the behavior of the car, making it both faster and more stable. The new record time on the Nürburgring is striking proof of this, shattering by 12 seconds the previous, already exceptional time of the same model without the kit.
Lars Kern described absolute confidence, especially in fast corners. He was able to go 14 km/h faster in the section between “Lauda-Links” and “Bergwerk”, a colossal gain.
This performance is the result of a perfect synergy between the elements. The increased aerodynamic downforce allows you to brake later and reaccelerate sooner. The forged rims of 21 incheslighter despite their size, reduce unsprung masses and improve agility.
Larger brakes and performance pads ensure flawless endurance.
Doesn’t this record blur the lines on the notion of “production car”?
The Taycan Turbo GT model with Manthey kit is technically a production car because the pack is an official option. However, with its semi-slick tires, its extreme settings and its track DNA, it radically moves away from daily road use.
It’s a cleverly exploited marketing gray zone by manufacturers to establish their technological supremacy. Competition, particularly from China with Xiaomi SU7 Ultra or Yangwang WORLD U9plays on the same terrain, with “track” versions or ultra-limited series.
The very category of “executive electric sedan” used by Porsche seems tailor-made. If this feat of engineering is indisputable, it raises the question of the relevance of these records for the end consumer.
This escalation above all shows to what extent the electric car has become a laboratory of pure performance, pushing back limits that we thought were insurmountable just five years ago.
