Director Steven Soderbergh’s “Black Bag” seems to have finally found its audience on streaming after a poor box office showing back in March. It wasted no time crashing Prime Video’s top 10 list of the most-watched movies after premiering on the platform last week.
If you’re looking for more heart-pounding excitement and high-stakes investigations, you’ve come to the right place. As one of the best streaming services out there, Prime Video is home to an impressive catalogue of top-notch film titles, especially when it comes to spy thrillers. I’ve included both fan-favorites and overlooked gems on this list to offer a little something for everyone.
For those craving plot twists, a mounting sense of impending danger, and edge-of-your-seat suspense, fuel your next movie marathon with these five must-watch spy thrillers currently streaming on Prime Video.
‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning’
Watch On
With “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” landing on PVOD services last month, it’s the perfect time to get caught up. The two effectively serve as a two-part finale to one of Hollywood’s biggest action franchises.
Tom Cruise returns as everyone’s favorite superspy, Ethan Hunt, who is drawn into a globe-trotting chase to find the access keys to a deadly AI known only as “the Entity.” Along for the ride are his crew, Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) and Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames), as they dive headfirst into the franchise’s signature mix of heart-pounding car chases, jaw-dropping stunts, and elaborate fight sequences.

‘Atomic Blonde’

Watch On
One of the best action movies of the past 15 years, “Atomic Blonde” is a must-see for fans of heart-pounding espionage stories with plenty of twists and turns. It’s packed with the kind of dazzling set pieces that David Leitch, at the time fresh off his uncredited work as co-director of “John Wick,” is known for, and I think it may be one of Charlize Theron’s best performances to date.
Set just days before the fall of the Berlin Wall, Lorraine Broughton (Theron) is a top-tier MI6 operative sent to Berlin to recover a dossier that contains the name of every active intelligence agent in the region. To keep this info from falling into the wrong hands, Broughton must navigate a deadly web of espionage where trust is a luxury she can’t afford. Also starring James McAvoy, John Goodman, Toby Jones and Sofia Boutella, “Atomic Blonde” is a clever and ultra-stylish action thrill ride that’ll keep you guessing.

‘All the Old Knives’

Watch On
For a more slow-burning spy thriller, look no further than “All the Old Knives.” Directed by Janus Metz Pedersen of “Andor” fame, it stars Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton star as two agents whose shared past resurfaces in a dangerous, high-stakes mission.
Set years after a botched terrorist attack, veteran CIA operative Henry (Pine) is tapped to root out the mole responsible with his former lover and retired colleague, Celia (Newton). As they retrace the events that led to the disaster, old wounds reopen, loyalties are tested, and secrets come to light that spell disaster for them both. While the story leans on plenty of familiar territory, it captures the same grittiness and tension of classic espionage films to keep you glued to the screen.
