Summary

  • Apple is set to hold its next major product reveal event on September 9.
  • The iPhone 17 series is expected to make its debut, alongside the iPhone 17 Air.
  • New Apple Watch models, including the Apple Watch 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3, are expected to be announced, and possibly the AirPods Pro 3.

Apple fans, the news you’ve been anticipating has finally arrived. Apple has confirmed that its next major product reveal event will be on Tuesday, September 9, at 10:00 am PST / 1:00 pm EST. Every year, Apple hosts an event in September to introduce its new iPhones, and this year is no different.

At the event on September 9, Apple is widely expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series, along with a few other surprises. The tagline Apple is using to promote the event is “Awe dropping,” which was released alongside an Apple logo featuring hints of blue and orange. Apple is now inviting media to attend the event, which will be held at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California. Everyone will be able to watch along at home, with the event being streamed on Apple’s website and YouTube page.

If you’re curious about the new devices Apple plans to reveal at its big event on September 9, here’s what you can expect to see.

1

The iPhone 17 series

It wouldn’t be a September Apple event without the iPhone

Apple’s event on September 9 will undoubtedly be all about the iPhone 17 series. This includes the new iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Leaks suggest that the iPhone 17 will resemble last year’s iPhone 16, retaining the same rear vertical camera layout. The main updates are expected to be under the hood, such as Apple’s A19 chipset, for improved performance. Rumors also suggest that it may feature a 120Hz ProMotion display, which would make the iPhone 17 the first non-Pro iPhone to include one. The iPhone 17 might also have a larger 6.3-inch display, slightly bigger than the iPhone 16’s 6.1-inch screen.

For months, leaks have claimed that the iPhone 17 Pro will feature a larger, rectangular camera bump on the back, which completely alters the phone’s look…

Over the past few months, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max have been the center of attention. Apple hasn’t made major design changes to its Pro model iPhone since the iPhone 11 Pro in 2019, but that seems to be changing with the iPhone 17 Pro. For months, leaks have claimed that the iPhone 17 Pro will feature a larger, rectangular camera bump on the back, which completely alters the phone’s look — whether for better or worse remains to be seen. Besides the new camera design, the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to be powered by Apple’s A19 Pro chipset and feature an aluminum frame, rather than the titanium one used in the iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro. The iPhone 17 Pro is also rumored to be coming in a new orange color, which may be why Apple included hints of orange in the Apple logo in its teaser image for the event.

The iPhone 17 Air

You may have noticed that when I discussed the iPhone 17 series, I didn’t mention an iPhone 17 Plus. That’s because Apple is widely expected to scrap the Plus model iPhone from its lineup this year, in favor of a brand-new model reportedly called the iPhone 17 Air.

…the iPhone 17 Air is expected to be Apple’s thinnest and lightest iPhone yet.

As the Air moniker suggests, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to be Apple’s thinnest and lightest iPhone yet. Exactly how thin it is, however, remains unknown. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported earlier this year that it could be around 5.5mm thick, while The Information has reported it could be anywhere from 5mm to 6mm thick. What’s also unique about the iPhone 17 Air is that it’s expected to feature only a single rear camera, like the iPhone 16e, and a more compact battery due to its slim profile. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported earlier this year that it could have a 6.6-inch display and also have some features the iPhone 16 Pro has, like Camera Control and ProMotion.

So, while the iPhone 17 Air may have a new design that is slim and lightweight, it could have a few compromises in store to achieve that. The easiest way to picture the iPhone 17 Air right now is to think of it as Apple’s version of the Galaxy S25 Edge, the slim flagship phone Samsung released earlier this year.

New Apple Watch models are coming

Besides the new iPhone models, Apple is also rumored to launch brand-new Apple Watch models at its event on September 9. This includes the Apple Watch Series 11 and the Apple Watch Ultra 3.

When Apple launched the Apple Watch Series 10 last year, it emphasized its thinner and lighter design, alongside a larger and brighter display, compared to the Apple Watch Series 9. That said, since Apple redesigned the Apple Watch last year, the Series 11 is expected to look quite similar to it, with a few notable improvements. Namely, the Apple Watch Series 11 is rumored to be powered by Apple’s new S11 processor, which will make the watch faster and more efficient. As for health features, blood pressure and glucose monitoring are heavily rumored, but it is unclear if these features will be ready in time for the launch of the Series 11.

It’s been two years since the Apple Watch Ultra 2 was released, and this year, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is expected to launch with several upgrades, including a larger, brighter display similar to the one introduced in the Apple Watch 10 last year, and a newer processor, likely the S11. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported earlier this year that the Apple Watch Ultra 3 might be the first Apple Watch to include Satellite Connectivity, a feature initially introduced with the iPhone 14. Additionally, it may include a 5G modem, making it the first Apple Watch with 5G, which Apple first introduced on the iPhone back in 2020.

AirPods Pro 3

New health features are expected

Apple released the AirPods Pro 2 back in 2022, and this year, the AirPods Pro 3 is finally expected to arrive. However, it’s unclear if Apple will announce the AirPods Pro 3 at the September 9 event or sometime later in the fall.

Whatever the date may be, Apple’s new Pro-level earbuds are rumored to feature several new enhancements. These include in-ear heart rate monitoring, in-ear temperature detection, and a real-time translation feature. While heart rate monitoring may not sound particularly impressive, given that the Apple Watch already offers this feature, in-ear temperature detection does sound quite neat and could be quite useful if you’re feeling under the weather. The AirPods Pro 3 will likely also feature a few under-the-hood upgrades, including enhanced Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and a more advanced audio chip for improved sound quality.
