Disney+ and Hulu now have a combined login, and you can now access Hulu either in its own app or as a Disney+ channel. The Hulu app will get shut down sometime next year. Until then, Disney brings you the ultra-popular Marvel and Star Wars franchises, while Hulu covers a more adult-oriented niche with loads of movies and shows from network partners.
The two services release a ton of content every week, so I’ll make it easy for you by picking three worthwhile new entries. Two excellent thrillers hit this week, as well as a Marvel cartoon that’s fun for the whole family. The full list of TV shows and movies coming to the streaming services is below.
This Week on Hulu and Disney+: PCMag’s Picks
40 Acres (Oct. 17, Hulu)
Holding things together after the apocalypse is a challenge, and Canadian horror flick 40 Acres uses it as the backdrop for a compelling and harrowing drama. A family of African-American farmers struggles to hold on to their land after a fungal pandemic wipes out livestock and civil war tears down the rest. A great cast and solid script make this one worth a watch.
Marvel’s Spidey and Iron Man: Avengers Team-Up! (Oct. 17, Disney+)
The all-ages Marvel material on Disney+ is pretty charming, creating a new generation of fans with each project. The popular Spidey and his Amazing Friends and Iron Man and his Awesome Friends series cross over for the first time in this special episode, where the Green Goblin and Ultron join forces to take over New York City. Can our heroes fight them off with the power of friendship?
The Hand That Rocks The Cradle (Oct. 22, Hulu)
Horror “it girl” of the moment Maika Monroe stars in this remake of 1998’s The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, about a psychotic nanny who gets brought into a family home and tears it apart from the inside. Director Michelle Garza Cervera’s feature debut, Huesera, was an excellent body horror flick with some real scares, so we’re optimistic about this one.
