A serious warning has been issued to the Shiba Inu and Bitcoin communities as clipper malware, known for changing crypto wallet addresses, has resurfaced. This dangerous software threatens to divert funds to attackers’ wallets, putting users at significant financial risk.
Malware resurfaces, targeting crypto
A critical malware alert has raised the level of alert within the Shiba Inu community and the broader Bitcoin ecosystem. Clipper malware, which poses a serious threat to users’ funds, is the subject of the alert. This malicious software specifically targets cryptocurrency transactions.
A Shiba Inu-centric X account called ShibArmy Scam Alerts recently tweeted a warning about the growing threat of Clipper malware, which is actively targeting cryptocurrency transactions. The account is dedicated to exposing scams and defending the crypto community.
Clipper virus changes wallet addresses
Without the victim’s knowledge, this malware changes the copied wallet addresses and sends the funds to the attacker’s wallet.
Discovered in 2017, the Clipper malware is back with a vengeance, causing chaos once again. The virus has spread from its Windows origins to infected Android apps, making it a threat to users of both Android and iOS devices; however, Android devices are more often targeted.
Clipper virus manipulates crypto addresses
The clipper virus scans users’ clipboards for Bitcoin wallet addresses that users may have copied. The malware replaces the attacker’s address when an address is copied. Users risk having their funds sent to the scammer’s wallet instead of the intended recipient if they fail to notice this change and proceed with the transaction anyway.
Many users have fallen victim to the Clipper malware scam, which has seen a significant increase in attacks lately, U.Today reports.
Even though Binance, a major crypto exchange, has blacklisted suspicious addresses and notified affected users, the risk is still high for anyone working in the crypto industry.
ShibArmy shares safety measures for users
To protect the crypto community from the harmful Clipper malware, ShibArmy Scam Alerts has highlighted some measures that can be taken.
Check wallet addresses before using them. Therefore, Shiba Inu owners should always double-check the wallet address before sending money. Before sending money, they should compare the original address with the duplicated address.
Secondly, only official apps should be used by Shiba Inu owners. It is essential that they stick to reputable app stores, such as the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, when downloading apps.
Third, to identify and prevent malware, crypto users should keep their security software up to date. Finally, people should be wary of unauthorized programs and stay away from plugins and apps that have not been checked, especially if they come from an unknown or third-party source.
