A new software update for the PlayStation 5 system is now available for download, featuring performance and stability improvements.
The new 24.06-10.01.00 update, which can be downloaded directly from the PlayStation 5 system, apparently only introduces improvements to system software performance and stability, according to the update notes. However, it also fixes graphics and crashing issues that were introduced by the previous update in certain games. After installing the update, I can confirm that Final Fantasy XVI runs smoothly again, so the issues should be resolved for other games that are also experiencing the same problems.
In addition to ruining games like Final Fantasy XVI, the PlayStation 5 24.06 system software update introduced the Welcome Hub, a personalized space on the console’s home screen that players can customize with various widgets, a Party Share feature that allows users to share party voice chats to any messaging or social media app, personalized 3D audio profiles for headphones and earbuds, new Remote Play settings, and more. You can learn more about the update here.
While Sony continues to work on the software side, Sony hasn’t been sitting still on the hardware side either. The highly anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro is launching on November 7, and will bring significant visual improvements to existing titles such as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Sony is also working on the PlayStation 6, which will be powered by AMD and will potentially come in two different SKUs.
