Gladiator 2 Will it be the cinematic surprise of 2024? While we shouldn’t sell the bear’s skin before killing it in the Colosseum, everything suggests that the new Ridley Scott is about to give us a big show. Announced six years ago, this sequel project was not at all reassuring at its beginnings. The Hollywood industry no longer hesitates to dig up its classics to try to replenish its coffers, and the masterpiece of the 2000s was therefore not immune to disaster. But as casting announcements, first photos and first trailers emerge, it is clear that the filmmaker has an epic and memorable cocktail in store for us.
After a lackluster biographical drama and an even less good historical drama, Ridley Scott decided to draw on the peplum to try to return to the top of his art. Gladiator 2 is about to tell us the story of Lucius (Paul Mescal), son of Lucilla and nephew of Commodus. Sent far from Rome as a child, the young Roman nobleman will unfortunately face the wrath of the Empire as an adult. After being taken prisoner, it is in the Gladiator arena that the new protagonist will try to satisfy his revenge. Since Rome has taken his wife and mother from him, Lucius has nothing more to lose in trying to dethrone the tyrannical emperors who rule this power (Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger). As The theatrical release is scheduled for November 13th., Gladiator 2 offers itself a new trailer that is even more promising.

A (too) revealing trailer?
Once again, Paramount seeks to impress us with surprising visuals. The rage of General Marcus Acacius (Pedro Pascal) seems to have no limits, so Lucius will have to redouble his efforts to survive and carry out his objectives. After the sharks of the previous trailer, our new protagonist finds himself face to face with monkeys and a good number of explosions. The life of a gladiator is certainly not easy. However, long-time fans will not fail to raise a most intriguing element in these extracts.
After assuring us that Lucius was the son of Marcus Aurelius, here is the trailer revealing that he is in reality the son of his lifelong idol: Maximus. Many viewers would have preferred to discover this information at the cinema, but that’s the way it is. Studios no longer hesitate to resort to all kinds of tricks and revelations to convince us to rush to the cinema. There are only a few weeks left to wait before finding out if Gladiator 2 truly lives up to its predecessor. Join us on November 13th for another epic dive into Ridley Scott’s Ancient Rome.
