LEGENDARY director Hideo Kojima is best known for the Metal Gear Solid series, but has gone on to develop new IPs following his public divorce from publisher Konami.
His first major series with his new company, Death Stranding, was immediately snapped up by Sony, and has been a PlayStation console exclusive since launch.
It was one of the best games on PS4, and has since been ported to PS5, Windows PC, and Mac.
However, when it came to Xbox, Sony prevented the game from launching on the Series X|S.
Kojima Productions recently announced the Death Stranding: Director’s Cut is now available on Xbox Series X|S, five years after it originally launched on PS4.
The game costs £34.99/$39.99, but has a huge 50% discount for the first two weeks it’s on sale.
You can grab Death Stranding for just £17.49/$19.99 until Thursday, November 21, 2024, and it comes with another benefit.
Those who purchase the Xbox console version, will also be able to play the PC version at no extra cost.
In the same way, if you previously purchased the game via the Microsoft Store for PC, you can now play it on your console.
The change comes thanks to Kojima Productions obtaining the rights for Death Stranding from Sony after their initial deal.
As Kojima Productions’ first game, it was developed in partnership with Sony-owned studio Guerilla Games.
Guerilla Games is best known for its work on the Horizon and Killzone series, so Sony allowed access to one of its best.
While Kojima Productions has received the license for the original Death Stranding, the follow-up, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, is still being published by Sony.
This means that the sequel will likely not be available on Xbox at launch.
Xbox Stranded
We’re always happy to see games ported to other platforms as it gives more people a way to play.
When platforms gain the exclusive rights to a game it only helps that company to earn more money, and is actively anti-consumer.
We hope that moving forward, more companies will consider the consumer rather than their profits.
