RETIRED Pro Bowl star T.J. Houshmandzadeh believes the Dallas Cowboys’ head honcho should be held responsible for the team’s brutal start to the campaign.
The former wide receiver Houshmandzadeh, 47, shared his belief that owner Jerry Jones is to blame for the Cowboys’ 3-5 record.
The Cowboys have lost three games in a row as their season is hanging by a thread.
They are four games in back of the division leader 7-2 Washington Commanders and quarterback Dak Prescott will also be sidelined for at least four weeks due to a hamstring injury he suffered in Week 9.
The Bengals legend Houshmandzadeh took part in an exclusive interview with The U.S. Sun, thanks to Tide, and thinks Jones should be blamed for the Cowboys’ struggles.
“Who do I blame? It’s the guy making [the] decisions, the guy that controls the roster,” Houshmandzadeh said.
“So whoever that is, many say it’s Jerry Jones, then he has to take the lion’s share of the blame because [he] sure [takes] a lot of the credit when things go well, so you must take the blame.”
While Jones gave extensions to Prescott and wide receiver star CeeDee Lamb, he made almost no additions to their team in the offseason after losing in last year’s playoffs.
Houshmandzadeh believes the team lost a valuable coach in Dan Quinn, who handled a Cowboys defense that was among the top units in the league last year and has suffered in the injury department as well.
“It was just a miscalculation of what they thought they had. Dan Quinn leaves, and they bring in Mike Zimmer to run the defense, and the defense has not been what it was last year, and it’s hard,” he said.
“Micah (Parsons) hasn’t played in a few weeks. (DeRon) Bland hasn’t played at all this season.
“And so from a defensive perspective, they’re hurting.”
The Cowboys rank 31st in points allowed.
Jones’ squad has also been one-dimensional on offense, according to Houshmandazadeh.
“The only guy that they have on offense outside of Dak Prescott is CeeDee Lamb,” he said.
“You’re not beating good teams in the NFL when everybody knows you’re just gonna feature one guy.”
Prescott has thrown for 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions and has seen his targets gain a league-worst average target separation of 2.8 yards, per Next Gen Stats.
They also have one of the worst rushing attacks in the NFL as they have run the ball a league-worst 173 times all season,
It won’t get any easier for the Cowboys who will face the division rival 6-2 Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
Houshmandzadeh joined Bengals fans at a tailgate last weekend because of his #TideTackles partnership with Tide, where he ate some Skyline chili which happened to plop on his white shirt.
Luckily, he was able to get the tough stains out.
“We made quite a bit of a mess with that chili, and it was perfect because Tide gon clean it right on up for us,” Houshmandzadeh said.
