More than 180 China-developed large AI models have received approval from authorities to provide public services, Wang Jingtao, vice minister of the country’s Cyberspace Administration, has revealed. China approved its first batch of large language models to be made available to the general public one year ago, with ChatGPT-like services from Baidu, SenseTime, and Zhipu AI included in the initial list. Wang mentioned at China’s Internet Security Conference, which was held in early August, that a total of 564 million users have registered to use these AI-generated tools.
