Tech giant Xiaomi is planning to make a big change for its smartphones in India. The company is likely to discontinue its GetApps store for Indian users. Indus App Store is an Indian smartphone application that unifies users, developers, and smartphone brands on a single platform. The platform is an Android-based app store for Indian users that competes with Google Play Store. It offers over 200,000 apps and games in 12 Indian languages, including Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Odia, Punjabi, Malayalam, Bengali, Assamese, and Kannada.

Starting January 2025 Xiaomi will phase out its GetApps and it will no longer be preloading or supporting GetApps on existing and future devices in the country. The move states that the company is planning a significant change in strategy keeping Indian users and Indian market in mind. The shift from GetApps to Indus App showcases Xiaomi’s focus and capturing Indian users.
The change will most likely come into effect through a system update and it doesn’t require anything from user side. You will receive a system generated message regarding the discontinuation of GetApps in India. A dialogue box will appear on Xiaomi’s users smartphone stating GetApps will be replaced by the third-party partner, PhonePe. Users can continue exploring, downloading, and updating apps via Indus App Store.
The GetApps will continue providing app installation and support services under the name Indus Services App. Users can head to the [email protected], if they have any query regarding shifting to the Indus App Store.
