If you like suspense, crazy plot twists and oppressive settings, Shyamalan is almost a sure value since his rebirth as a master of suspense, a few years ago, with ‘The Visit’. But in addition, it is advisable to keep an eye not only on the films he signs as a director, such as the recent ‘The Trap’ or ‘Llaman a la puerta’, but also productions that also bear his indisputable stamp, such as ‘The Watchers’ or this ‘Caddo Lake‘ which has been surprising for a few months on Max (you also have it available on Movistar Plus+).
In fact, it reached number one on the Warner platform and was only unseated by the premiere of the recent ‘The Trap’ itself, so It’s clear that viewers are in need of dark and disturbing thrillers like these. The film has been directed by Celine Held and Logan George, who previously worked with the director on the magnificent ‘Servant’ for Apple Plus+, created by Shyamalan also through his company Blinding Edge Pictures.
In Caddo Lake (which is an extensive authentic wetland, located on the border between Texas and Louisiana) we will meet two people: Paris (Dylan O’Brien), a young man who feels guilty for having survived a car accident in the lake, in which her mother died, and Ellie (Eliza Scanlen), a teenager with a conflictive family relationship, since she goes to kill with her mother but adores her little stepsister. When she mysteriously disappears into the swamp, a series of deaths and disappearances from the past begin to flourish.
Halfway between criminal suspense and drama in rural settings, ‘Caddo Lake’ has been compared to series like ‘Dark’. This is due to certain argumentative puns and a very personal presentation of the facts: We are not faced with a ‘who did it?’ to use, but in the face of a challenging and surprising production, which grows in small details such as flashbacks or apparently inconsequential elements that later become important. Remember: the less you know about it, the better.
