Amazon has confirmed that will double the investment in Anthropicrival of OpenAI and developer of Claude AI, is going to increase, until it becomes double the current size. The company will contribute another $4 billion to the startup dedicated to AI, which will increase its investment in it up to 8,000 million of dollars.
Until now, Amazon had invested money twice in Anthropic: $1.25 billion in September 2023 and another $2.75 billion last March. But this time, in addition to investing, Amazon has taken another step, confirming that AWS will become Anthropic’s primary training partner.
The agreement also involves the company using AWS Trainium and Inferentia chips for the training and deployment of its future foundational models. Both companies will also continue working to advance Trainium’s hardware and software capabilities. Until now, Amazon Web Services was already the company’s main cloud provider.
The establishment of a closer relationship, as well as the increase in investment, make it quite likely that the rumors that have been heard for some time about which model will have the next version of Alexa, Amazon’s voice assistant, integrated.
The renewal of Alexa, whose launch has been delayed until next 2025, would according to all indications achieve better results using Claude AI than the model developed internally by Amazon. The company has promised that its next version, in addition to greater precision, will have a more conversational tone, very similar to the voice mode that ChatGPT already has.
Matt Garman, CEO de AWShas highlighted that «The response from AWS customers who are developing generative AI applications powered by Anthropic on Amazon Bedrock has been remarkable. Continuing to deploy Anthropic models on Amazon Bedrock, as well as Anthropic’s collaboration in the development of our custom Trainium chips, means we can continue to push the boundaries of what customers can achieve with generative AI technologies. “We have been impressed by Anthropic’s pace of innovation and commitment to the responsible development of generative AI, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration.”
As to Dario Amodei, one of the founders of Anthropic, and its CEOhas recalled that «This has been a year of successful growth for Claude, and our collaboration with Amazon has been crucial in bringing Claude’s capabilities to millions of end users across tens of thousands of customers on Amazon Bedrock. We look forward to working with Amazon to train and drive our most advanced AI models using AWS Trainium, and help unlock the full potential of their technology.«.
