Apple has talked a lot about artificial intelligence in recent months. If the Apple brand’s marketing teams have chosen another name, that of “Apple Intelligence”, it is indeed AI that we are talking about. If the subject interests the Cupertino company so much, it is obviously because we are at a crossroads in the development of our smartphones.
Tomorrow’s devices will be built around AI, to make them smarter and more useful. Apple must therefore work on this point, the apple does not have a big lead over its competitors, it is even quite the opposite. According to several sources, sometimes internal to the company, its delay is between 12 and 24 months.
AI still not welcome at Apps of the Year
However, Apple does not want to see AI everywhere. And if there is one place where this artificial intelligence is banned, it is during the awards ceremony for applications of the year. Apple has just revealed the list of finalists. And while these last 12 months have been profoundly marked by the birth of numerous tools using AI, none will be highlighted by Tim Cook and his teams.
Like last year already, AI is largely absent from this ceremony. Apple preferring to turn to so-called “useful for the general public” applications such as “Kino” (for filming professional videos) or even “Runna” (offering personalized coaching).
ChatGPT: the absence it bothers
Obviously the absence of an application like ChatGPT, one of the most downloaded of the year, is missing. The service developed by the OpenAI teams has conquered the whole world. If its competitors like Gemini (Google), Claude (Antropic) or even Copilot (Microsoft) are more logically absent from this award ceremony, ChatGPT had the great advantage of having become a high-ranking partner for Apple.
The service will be introduced natively in iOS 18. A nice highlight which nevertheless does not allow it to integrate the tops of this ranking of applications of the year? Note, however, that the application was also shunned by Google during its awards ceremony for the best applications on the Play Store.
3 finalists for the “app of the year” award
You can find the complete list of 45 finalists right here. They compete in 12 different categories, ranging from children’s games to best productivity apps. The title of “application of the year” in all categories will therefore be between “Kino” and “Runna” (two applications presented above), but also with Tripsy, a service allowing you to organize your trips.
