DUOLINGO users have been left baffled after noticing that the app’s usual bird icon doesn’t quite look itself.
The hugely popular language learning platform usually shows a cheery green owl but at the moment it’s mysteriously cracked.
And some have joked that they have “broken” the app.
It’s not clear why the app icon has taken the negative turn – though thankfully the service itself still works as normal.
“why is my duolingo bird broken,” one person asked on X.
“honey please we have to learn another language, they’re torturing the duolingo bird,” another said.
“just punched the duolingo bird in the face and shattered it into a dozen pieces,” a third remarked.
Duolingo hasn’t revealed why the icon has changed.
But the company did tweet, saying: “Somebody fix me.”
It’s certainly not the first time the app has redesigned the logo – and the move is usually a temporary tweak.
Earlier this year, the owl was transformed to look tired and sick, which people said was “depressing” to look at and didn’t motivate them to do their daily lesson.
The bird has also appeared with a melting face too previously.
It is thought that the change may be a trick to grab people’s attention and make them open the app.
How to change Duolingo icon back
If you thought completing lessons would make the cracked logo disappear, think again.
The Sun has tried this and the icon did not revert back.
However, the sad face is likely to be a temporary trick to get your attention, in which case it’ll probably revert to its old look soon.
There are three ways you can change the app’s icon right now depending on the type of account you have.
