New Saturday, we once again face Saturday’s Hoy No Circula. Yes, the specific restrictions faced by those who have doubts about whether or not they can circulate where the Hoy No Circula program is active.
It must be remembered that this program designed by the CDMX Environment Secretariat (SEDEMA) is designed to reduce polluting emissions from the atmosphere and, therefore, from the air we breathe. However, it requires leaving some cars at home, resting, to take vehicles out of circulation and, therefore, reduce the particles expelled from the exhaust pipes.
The project is active in the 16 municipalities in Mexico City and in the following suburban municipalities of the State of Mexico:

- Cuautitlan
- Cuautitlán Izcalli
- Chalco
- Chicoloapan
- Chimalhuacan
- Ecatepec de Morelos

What cars and license plates does Hoy No Circula Saturday affect?
The doubts with Hoy No Circula arise because the same cars do not always rest on the same days of the month. On weekdays, it’s less of a problem because, as you can see above, the restrictions are based on the license plate number that hologram 1 or 2 cars end up on.
However, on Saturdays there are more doubts. In some cases, there are cars that can circulate on a Saturday but may be prohibited the following week. In others, they can get moving without fear every Saturday or, on the contrary, they cannot do so at all.
In summary, the following questions can be raised:
- Those that can circulate every Saturday
- Those who have to rest every Saturday
- Those who rest every other Saturday
The restrictions, however, apply between 05:00 and 22:00. That is, at night we can drive with complete peace of mind, since restrictive measures are not applied and, therefore, no fines are imposed.
Once all this is clear, the first thing we should know is that those with hologram 0 and 00 will be able to move with total freedom and can forget about what we write from here on.
Something similar happens to those in hologram 2 but the result could not be more opposite. Yes, you can forget but you should know that every Saturday of the month traffic is prohibited at the times and places where Today No Circula applies.
On the contrary, we have cars with hologram 1. In that case, the license plate number will determine the restrictions. This week, as it is the first Saturday of the month of December, the cars with hologram 1 and license plate ending in an odd number will be the ones that have to stay home. Next week, they will be those with a plate ending in an even number and they will rotate week by week in the prohibitions.
Of course, it must be taken into account that there are a series of exceptions that allow the following cars to circulate, regardless of their license plate number or hologram:
- Those that run on electricity, natural gas or are hybrids
- Those who have a disabled license plate
- All those dedicated to urban transportation services (includes funeral homes)
- Those that offer school or passenger transportation
- Those intended for public safety and/or civil protection
