It’s been almost five months since SearchGPT was released. ChatGPT’s promising search function sought to improve the way we find information thanks to the power of artificial intelligence (AI). This posed a serious threat to Google, which has long dominated the search market without a formidable adversary.
But SearchGPT had some disadvantages compared to the product it sought to challenge. Its access was limited to paying users and its interface was quite hidden. OpenAI has overcome one of these limitations. ChatGPT’s search function has some improvements and is now available to everyone completely free of charge.
You no longer need to pay to use SearchGPT
OpenAI has high expectations for SearchGPT. From the beginning, you have emphasized that this service is designed to help us find useful answers more efficiently than a traditional search engine. The company led by Sam Altman aims to make multiple searches to find quality sources a thing of the past.
They propose an AI search where we ask questions in the most natural way possible where the results appear in the form of a generative response (accompanied by their corresponding links) that invites us to continue the conversation. Certainly, it is a very similar experience to what we have seen in other services such as Perplexity.
This interesting alternative is no longer limited to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Enterprise, Edu and Team users. All we use a free ChatGPT account We should soon have access to this search experience both on chatgpt.com and in the mobile apps for iOS and Android. If the feature is activated we should see the Search button.
As the OpenAI team noted this Monday on day 8 of their 12-day announcement event, we start by typing a search term. For example: “Are there any good events in San Francisco this weekend?” We could also do another type of search: “The 10 best bookstores in Madrid” to see if the results will be useful to us.
OpenAI is also bringing ChatGPT’s search feature to advanced voice mode. This can be very useful in various scenarios where we need to receive updated information while chatting with the AI. On a trip we could ask you about the best routes available, nearby restaurant recommendationspublic transportation schedules and more.
